I think I'll always love the song Village Green Preservation Society. Kate Rusby did a nice cover of it, which was the opening theme of Jennifer Saunders' Jam and Jerusalem.
Oh yeah, Cathy Dennis. I like her. That brings to mind another singer I like, Emilíana Torrini, who co-wrote Slow. I thought it was funny when I found that out, since her music (or what I've heard of it) sounds nothing like Kylie's. :P
I have an LP called Spotlight On The Kinks Volume 2 and a CD just called The Kinks but I don't have any of their original albums. Hopefully I shall change that one day. My favourite Kinks songs are Not Like Everybody Else, Days and Waterloo Sunset. BTW, there was a good cover version of the last named by Cathy Dennis, who later went on to write songs for Kylie Minogue, including the big one, Can't Get You Out Of My Head.
Haha, well, while I can't have all of the cool physical items she's released, at least I can have a good digital collection. :) I'm glad we share musical interests! I only have one Kinks CD, but I hope to get more soon!
Got quite a lot of Kylie there, I see. I also see you like The Kinks, KT Tunstall and Lady Gaga among others. All good artists I think.
Oh yeah! I remember thinking, "Uh... Beyonce? Is that you?" Even if the video was directed at someone else... why have all these references?? Just... wtf? :P
So, after your comments about Nicki Minaj´s videoclip, I watched it. Sincerely, it´s incredibly boring and silly. I didn´t see what so creative thing she is doing. Maybe only her hyperdramatic fans think this.:) But it´s okay; everyone has personal tastes. I agree with you, because I can like an artist, but I say when some song or album is not so good. It´s part of life: nobody hits all the time!
But, back to that videoclip, it was I was watching Shakira´s SHE WOLF: same poses, hair, a woman in a cage almost equal to Shakira´s cage (Shakira was golden and Nicki´s cage was an ugly garish yellow). And those doll eyes were equal to Lady Gaga´s eyes during the videoclip BAD ROMANCE. I would forgive everything if the song was good, but, sincerely, I considered it so boring I felt will to sleep.:) Finally, while watching the videoclip, I remembered Beyoncé´s SINGLE LADIES (PUT A RING ON IT): the first beats and the some movements of the female dancers.
Aight... I've posted another itunes pic, but it's in my blog (as they'll all be). I'm still trying to decide how to present all of my stuff, haha. Hmm... Madonna + Britney? World music? Indie rock? Pretty artwork? lol
In any case, I might be able to introduce people to some great artists.. :]
O.m.w that is pathetic! (that Operation Save Roman thingy!)
Jeez... but that song and video is her worst... no wonder theres so many more dislikes than likes!
I don't know whats up with this video??? It's a diss to Lil Kim (which is stupid just b.t.w), but then theres so many references to other artists? Oh well... SHAME!!!
@Phil: Ah, oui, lol. I only wish I could speak French. XD And someday I'll visit belo Brasil.
@Damien: I read somewhere that her eye makeup was similar to Kylie's in In My Arms, and there is a part... around 1:00 to 1:07 in the vid that reminds me of the video. I dunno, it could be a stretch, but it seemed to me that there were so many references or, ahem, sources of inspiration that it could be possible. When she's against the wall in a hoodie, I immediately thought of JLO's On the Floor, and the lollipop scene reminded me of Katy Perry. But with the Barbie army ready to defend her, we may never know. One of the threads on her site was called OPERATION SAVE ROMAN, and this one member has been trying to rally all of Nicki's fans to make YouTube accounts to "like" her Stupid Hoe video in order to get her ratings up. She kept complaining that she has to do "damage control" now that Nicki is kind of a running joke. She spends all her time defending her on various websites. There are just no words to describe how sad that is. XD I mean, I like Kylie, but I'd never be obsessed over her.
